Contour Editions is very pleased to present the work of its two latest published artists, Mike Bullock and Sari Carel at the NYC focused series CT::SWAM that creates a splendid context for listening to multichannel works and for post-presentation dialogue with the artists about their work.  Contour Editions is an online platform focused on presenting the work of contemporary artists that are exploring the various possibilities of sound and moving image. Contour Editions objective is to make accessible time-based works that are engaged with notions of listening, vision, media exploration, materiality, process, and concept. Each project has its own voice, approach, and it expands in various forms within the possibilities of the internet as a field at large. These publications take the shape of online listening and/or viewing works, multi-channel sound installations, post-installation material, text/speech, and more. Sari Carel, Out Of Thin Air
:
Commissioned by More Art for City Hall Park, NY in 2018, Out Of Thin Air considers breathing in all its intimacy and enormity. The piece was made through a series of experimental sound workshops and  is composed entirely of breath sounds. Looking at the uses and abuses of air, the act of breathing and its counterpart breathlessness fade in and out of the ever-changing  soundscape of downtown New York City.

Mike Bullock, Reveal, Return
:
For this Exchange I have prepared a new piece that combines elements of A Mountain of Reveal from my Contour release with new recordings made this past September in the same region, the Ariège region of the French Pyrénées; as well as heretofore unheard contrabass recordings. I will also discuss my approach to combining environmental recording with instruments in spatial audio settings.

Bio
i am a composer, improviser, and intermedia artist based in western massachusetts.
i make artistic works that engage with the perception of forgotten or unknown elements of an environment, the way these elements influence each other, and how their interactions suggest flexible states of time perception. to these ends i work in several media: contrabass, modular electronics, spatial audio arrays, video, graphite and ink.
i like to create states of activity that rise to a sort of ecstatic stasis, emerging and sustaining themselves from the many levels of simultaneous action. i explore this in my electroacoustic music works, by incorporating multiple field recordings with instruments and voices. sounding things and people – transistor radios, raw speaker cones, portraits of sound art pioneers – are frequent material for my visual pieces.
i have been performing and presenting work since the 1990s at venues across the us and in europe, including fylkingen in stockholm, sweden; instants chavirés in paris; café oto in london; experimental intermedia and issue project room in new york city; the philadelphia museum of art; and empac in troy, ny. in june 2015, the pew center for arts and heritage awarded me a performance grant. i am an ambassador for the kingdoms of elgaland-vargaland (krev).
