:::Shattered Song, Shadow City by Viv Corringham
A multi channel work with live voice.

Shattered Song, Shadow City is a work for solo vocalist performing live with a six channel setup. The singing voice interweaves through fragmented stories and soundscapes from five countries. It uses words of displaced people and aims to create a sense of dislocation in the audience too. Phrases and words from different people, sometimes in their own language, and field recordings from various places move through the six speakers. Recordings used in this installation were made over the course of a year on walks with inhabitants of many European cities and their accounts of what these places meant to them. Their stories spoke of home, disruption, escape, community and often hope. In 2018 the work was presented in Hong Kong, Taipei, Shantou, Bangalore, Delhi and Kolkata, at festivals, universities and cultural centres. Originally commissioned by Harvestworks Media Arts, NY.

CT::SWaM ExChange is a monthly meet-up at the Fridman Gallery Media Room focussed on multi-channel works and spatial sound. Viv Corringham
Viv Corringham is a British vocalist and sound artist, active since the late 1970s. Her work includes concerts, soundwalks, radio works and multi-channel installations. She is interested in exploring people’s sense of place and the link with personal history
and memory. She studied and worked with Pauline Oliveros for many years and holds a Certificate to teach Deep Listening. She facilitates workshops in listening and sounding, most recently in Hong Kong, London, Bangalore, New York, Kolkata and Manila. She received two Composer Fellowships from McKnight Foundation, through American Composers Forum. Her work has received international recognition and been presented in twenty five countries on five continents. C. Lavender is a Hudson Valley, New York-based sound artist, sound healing practitioner, and educator whose work spans through live performance, recording, installations, videos, compositions, and workshops. She seeks to create an immersive aural landscape for the listener, an experience which is intensely physical, emotional and ultimately cathartic as noted in a performance review from the Village Voice; “downright iconic, charged with meaning and transgression.”

C. Lavender has performed, lectured and hosted workshops at Hirshhorn Museum, Issue Project Room, The Rubin Museum of Art, MoMA PS1, The Stone, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Fridman Gallery, The New School, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute among other venues. In 2016 she taught a ten-week class for children about the scientific and artistic aspects of sound. C. Lavender has albums and recordings featured on the labels Ecstatic Peace!, RVNG Intl, Primitive Languages, and Hot Releases.

Victoria Keddie
:
Victoria Keddie is an artist working within cross disciplines.
Keddie holds an MA degree from New York University and a BFA from University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a Mobility Fellowship at the California College of Arts in San Francisco, CA. Keddie is the Co-Director of E.S.P. TV, a nomadic TV studio that hybridizes technologies to realize synthetic environments and deconstruct the televisual for live performance. She teaches Advanced Televisual Broadcast at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, and has lectured at: Columbia University with the Sound Arts MFA program; Arts at Carnegie Mellon University; Cranbrook Academy of Art; School of Film and Video at Pratt University; University of Colorado, Boulder; Dept of Media Studies / Intermediate Sound at PNCA; University of Oregon,Eugene; and Hunter College in New York City; Bennington College. She has been an invited resident artist at the Storefront for Art and Architecture; Recess Gallery; AZ Wagon Station Encampment; Signal Culture; Pioneer Works ; WaveFarm; and Yaddo Artist Residency; Saari Fellow with the The Kone Foundation in Mynämäki,Finland (September 1-November 1, 2018), and is current resident artist at The Drawing Center in New York City (April 2018-April 2020).
