The first event presented under the CT::SWaM umbrella was in April 2012 at Eyebeam in Chelsea. The series evolved to hosting many concert events, workshops, a radio show, a monthly salon. and a virtual reality exhibit.
:
Now 2022, all too disruptive to comfortably call this event a celebration. Yet, we want to offer t i m e – to focus on listening, on sensing over longer duration, on dialog; t i m e for two duos, collaborations, in 8-channel space.

SUPERSTRUCTURES: NINE SENSE VARIATIONS FOR VOICE AND A-100
:
These nine movements were developed over two years by composers Gideon Crevoshay and Devin Greenwood. Their compositional practice relies on the emergence of melody, harmony and cadence from the “spectra” of tension-resolution patterns performed con gli antenati by Crevoshay using his free vocal technique. The result is a kind of simulated collective behavior which displays intelligence and form beyond the intentions of the composers, evolving continually to the tempo of the breath for 54 minutes.

Matt Sargent (b. 1984) is a composer, guitarist, and music technologist based in upstate New York. His work grows from interests in resonance, computer models of intelligence, and the making/breaking of long-form patterns. His compositions have been described as “bringing a sharpened sense of the transcendental into the 21st century.” (Paul Muller, Sequenza21) On his 2018 album, Ghost Music, Bill Meyer writes, “this music isn’t about following in anyone’s footsteps; it uses bare resources to establish a bounded and essential place.” (The Wire Magazine)
His albums include Tide (A Wave Press), Separation Songs (Cold Blue Music), Tide (for ten basses) (Marginal Frequency), and Ghost Music (Weighter Recordings).
In demand as an audio engineer and technical producer for contemporary music, Matt recently recorded Alvin Lucier’s Ricochet Lady (Black Truffle), Sarah Hennies’s Spectral Malsconcities (New World Records), Ensemble Signal / David Felder’s Les Quatre Temps Cardinaux (Coviello Contemporary), and Paul Catanese’s Century of Progress / Sleep, among others. He developed networked scoring software for Alvin Lucier and the Swiss-based Ever Present Orchestra, which facilitates performance of numerous large ensemble works composed by Alvin Lucier. In 2021, he co-composed A Murmur in the Trees, for twenty-four basses, with Eve Beglarian and bassist Robert Black. Praising his work on Robert Carl’s album, Splectra (Cold Blue Music), Fanfare Magazine writes, “he could find no better collaborator than composer and sound designer Matt Sargent.”
Matt is a visiting assistant professor of music at Bard College.

Gideon Crevoshay is a musician from the hills of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. He uses the human voice to explore the countless dimensions of sound, language, and improvisation. Gideon studies traditional and ancient forms of singing from the US, Caucasus, and Mediterranean, finding inspiration in the wisdom contained within these traditions and how they can inform present ideas of music making and community. He performs regularly with many projects including Tenores de Aterúe, Resonanda, Starry Mountain Singers, and Briars of North America, and is grateful to have been able to perform with such artists as Meredith Monk, Cynthia Hopkins, and Meshell Ndegeocello. Gideon has taught youth-oriented songwriting and sound production courses with Found Sound Nation, and teaches polyphonic singing to young adults with the world music organization, Village Harmony.
